Digitalization – a key to sustainable water management

December 16 2024

The Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences’ (IVA) report highlights digitalization as a cornerstone for sustainable water supply. Within Unity4Water, Siemens is leading the way in showcasing how advanced technologies can revolutionize water management.

As water scarcity and quality issues intensify, the need for smarter, more efficient water management systems becomes critical. The IVA report, Agenda for Sustainable Water Supply, underscores the importance of harnessing digital tools to optimize the use of this vital resource. From AI-driven monitoring systems to predictive analytics, digitalization is enabling a level of precision and efficiency previously unattainable.

One company at the forefront of this revolution is Siemens, a key partner in the Unity4Water project. Using sensor data in Siemens Digital platforms (Industrial Edge and InsightHub) enables advanced analysis using AI and simulations.
Siemens contributes to complete sustainable solutions and energy-optimized water processes for greenhouse environments, agriculture and industrial processes and other sectors that today require large resources.

– Siemens not only adapts to future needs. We are involved in the development of several international standardization committees and organizations, says Peter Karlsson, strategic account manager at Siemens.

Unity4Water leverages Siemens’ expertise to create systems that monitor water quality in real-time, predict maintenance needs, and optimize resource allocation. This not only improves efficiency but also supports the broader goal of creating a resilient and sustainable water supply for future generations.

The IVA report aligns with this vision, emphasizing the need for investment in digital infrastructure to address current and future challenges. Siemens’ involvement in Unity4Water serves as a practical example of how industry collaboration and innovation can make the report’s recommendations a reality.
